Stockings stride ahead (1 Comment)
I found this article on the net. It is from Australia, so when they speak about stockings, I think they mean pantyhose.
SHE’S got legs – and she knows how to clothe them. Brisbane model Jasmine Yarbrough, 22, had onlookers weak at the knees when she slipped her legs into a pair of silky, multi-coloured stockings.
Designers have given this season’s hosiery a fun new look, with no colour or design off-limits as stockings enjoy a resurgence in popularity.
Karen Wilson, from Paddington lingerie and fashion store Boudoir Chic, said this winter was all about “the legs”, with more women using stockings to dress up an outfit.
“If you’ve got a plain black dress on, having a very fancy pair of tights actually enhances your look,” she said.
Ms Wilson said big-name brands including Wolfords, Fogal and Giorgio Armani were steering away from dull and boring in favour of bright colours, geometric patterns and crystals.
“People were looking at just the normal opaque or sheer tights but now they are saying, ‘Have you got something different for me?’,” she said.
And it’s not just young fashion lovers wanting to give their legs a makeover.
“I’ve had people in their 50s and 60s come in to buy tights, and they are very adventurous with colour,” Ms Wilson said.
David Jones apparel, footwear and accessories group manager Colette Garnsey said footless tights, patterned hosiery, fishnets and coloured were walking out the door.
“Traditionally hosiery had been in decline for the younger market due to the trend towards bare legs. The new fashion hosiery has brought younger customers back,” she said.
“Not only are they a flattering way to stay warm this winter, they look great.”
